Peru - Safety Advisory For Travelers Warning against travel to the following provinces. Huacaybamba, Huamalies, Leoncio, Marañon, and Prado in the Department of Huanuco. the province of Tocache in the Department of Sand Martin and Padre Abad in the Department of Ucayali should also be avoided. It is believed that the Shining Path rebels were responsible for the atack and murder of Peruvian police in Aucayacu, in the province of Huanuco on December 20, 2005. There is now the possibility of increased military presence in the area. Visiting the border area with Ecuador continues to be a threat where landmines from a previous conflict with Ecuador remain and have yet to be cleared. The highest risk area is Cordillera del Cóndor. The Colombian border is ill advised for travel due to the continued narcotic trafficking.
